Tuya WiFi smart lock is not locking, I can hear the motor working when it says the lock is engaged but not locking
I just installed my new Tuya WiFi smart lock. However, the door is not locked. I can hear the motor working when it says the lock is engaged but not locking.
The biometric programs are fine, the cards program just fine, and the password programs are fine. But it just isn’t locking, outside of manually locking and unlocking the deadbolt. Please help.

If your Tuya WiFi smart lock’s motor is audibly working, but the door isn’t locking, several issues might be at play. Let’s break down potential causes and solutions:
- Check the Door Alignment: The door, frame, and deadbolt must be precisely aligned for the lock to function correctly. If the deadbolt is hitting the doorframe or not entering the hole smoothly, it might not lock even if the motor is working. Adjust the door, the strike plate, or both as necessary.
- Physical Blockages: Ensure the bolt or latch can move freely. Remove any debris or obstructions in the bolt’s path. Sometimes, paint, dirt, or other materials can get lodged in the bolt hole, preventing smooth movement.
- Manual Operation: Ensure the lock can be manually locked and unlocked smoothly. If there’s any resistance, it could be the cause of the problem.
- Re-calibration: Smart locks often need calibration to understand the ‘locked’ and ‘unlocked’ positions. If the calibration is off, it might think it’s locked when it’s not. Consult your lock’s manual for calibration instructions.
- Reset the Lock: Many smart locks have a reset function. You might lose your settings, but this can resolve glitches or minor electronic issues. Refer to the lock’s manual for reset instructions.
- Internal Mechanical Issue: If all the above steps don’t resolve the issue, the lock might have an internal mechanical problem. It might be a defective motor, a broken gear, or another internal part not functioning as it should.
- Contact Support: If you’re still facing problems after trying the above solutions, contacting Tuya’s customer support or the retailer where you purchased the lock would be best. They might have additional troubleshooting steps or identify the issue as a known defect.
The lock might be a simple alignment or calibration issue if you’ve recently installed it. If the lock has been used for a while and only recently started showing this behavior, it might be battery-related or an internal mechanical problem.
